On March 1, 2004 Carlsberg Bulgaria was awarded the Golden Martenitza 2003 for the investments in the two breweries Shumensko and Pirinsko.
The Golden Martenitza is awarded by the "Made in Bulgaria Union" and was presented to Alexander Grancharov, CEO of Carlsberg Bulgaria, by the Bulgarian Vice Prime Minister Nikolai Vassilev.
The award was given in the category "successful foreign investment and cooperation" for the investments in constructing the most advanced bottling line in Europe, modernizing the laboratories, designing new packaging, etc. 670 people are employed in Carlsberg Bulgaria, which now holds a number three position in the Bulgarian beer market.
Chairman of the Made in Bulgaria Union, Hristo Drumev, spoke of Carlsberg Breweries as a leading investor and a good example of a foreign company contributing to Bulgaria's economic growth and also pointed out that Carlsberg Bulgaria has revived the Bulgarian brands Prinisko and Shumensko.
