Carlsberg has bought a 46% stake in the Chinese barley and hops producer Xinjiang Hops Co.

The Chinese company specialises in the production of hops and barley for beer, and is the largest producer in the country in terms of output. The deal was performed through the joint venture Xinjiang Bluesword Brewing Investment Co, in which Chinese sector company Blue Sword Lanjian (Group) Co. holds a 51 per cent stake and Carlsberg the remainder.

After the purchase, the Xinjiang Bluesword Brewing Investment Co will become the largest shareholder of Xinjiang Hops.
